This past Friday, the Lady Project had the official Launch Party our newest chapter - Dallas/Fort Worth! DFW is the ELEVENTH Lady Project Chapter, and our first chapter in the South. The party was an intimate gathering held at The Quarter Bar in Uptown in Dallas, and brought together a diverse group of incredible women, not least of which were our 3x3 speakers:
- Sierra Barter, Founder + CEO, The Lady Project
- Juna Jones-Moore, Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition & Diversity, GameStop
- Sarah Bertness, Editor, LIKEtoKNOW.it
These lovely ladies shared their biggest challenges, which ranged from implementing a diversity initiative in their workplace, overcoming a traumatic brain injury, and getting over a breakup. The shared theme within these stories were of perseverance, and the unexpected but positive changes experienced from coming out on the other side.
In addition to the 3x3 speakers, we had the honor of hearing from April Mitchell, CEO of the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC), who shared stories about the phenomenal work she is doing with DARCC in the Dallas area, and our 3x3 Speaker, Sarah Bertness shared her experience volunteering with the organization. One of the more harrowing statistics she shared was that 2 in 5 women in Texas will experience sexual assault, as compared with the national statistic of 1 in 6. The DFW Lady Project was proud to partner with DARCC as the beneficiary organization for Friday’s launch event, in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The event ran from 6-9 pm, with the last few guests leaving the venue well past 9:30! This high-energy event certainly set the tone for what’s to come from DFW Lady Project! Our next event will be a book club night on May 18, where we will be reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi.
