Interview // Sarah Blodgett, Beauty Blogger

Tell us about your business / current project.

EverydayStarlet.com is a beauty blog and YouTube channel designed to inspire everyday women to bring a little bit of glamour into their everyday life.

If you could describe yourself in five words, what would they be?

Inquisitive, Funny, Creative, Unique, Blonde

Tell us about your co-conspirators. Who are the ladies you collaborate with on a regular basis?

I love meeting other bloggers and YouTubers who have similar interests and passions as I do.

Who inspires you these days? (Can be contemporary or a historical figure.)

I’m inspired by Old Hollywood Starlets from the past, but also current women who take the time to care for themselves. It’s not just about wearing makeup for vanity or about covering up flaws. It’s about taking a few minutes out of your day to do something fun and beautiful for yourself.

Why did you choose the career that you have?

I was a cosmetologist that hated working in a salon. Then I was a stand-up comedian who hated to travel. Beauty blogging allowed me to combined my skills and have a career that I truly love.

How do you think your work helps women locally and nationally?

I like to think that women all over the world can be inspired to take a minute out of their day to do something special for themselves.

What current events do you think are impacting you or your business directly right now?

I think women have a passion more than ever to have their voices heard. It’s a very exciting time.

When did you take your biggest risk (in life or business)? Was it worth it?

Giving up everything to focus on blogging full time was a scary thing, but I’ve never been happier!

When things get rough, how do you keep yourself going?

I make sure I’m eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise. It’s not the sexiest answer, but I am in a lot better headspace when I know I’m living a healthy lifestyle.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

“This is America. Pick a job and then become the person that does it.”- Mad Men

Do you label yourself a feminist? Please explain.

I’m a feminine-ist, I believe that being a woman is the most powerful thing you can be.

If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?

Vogue by Madonna... possibly because the rap about the Old Hollywood stars always inspires me.

Can you name a time when you had to put your personal opinions aside for the sake of business? Ever had to put aside business for personal opinion?

There are times when I want to voice my political opinions, but then I remind myself that people come to my blog and Youtube channel to escape their everyday stressors. There are places to go and voice your political views, and we all should find that outlet, but I want my online space to be a safe haven from political debates.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere, from magazines to tv shows and movies (new and old), to Pinterest.

Tell me your favorite joke.

“Ladies, if you’re single, try speeding. That way when you get pulled over you know the guy you’re flirting with has a job… and a car.”… a quote from my Stand-Up Comedy Act
